Boy Meets Girl, boy loses girl, boy tries to win girl is a story you've heard a million times before. But it is said in such a relatable, inventive in "500 Days of Summer", it almost feels like the first time.
This is the first time director Marc Webb, who puts his music video and commercial for the proper use of style, tactics that are animated - a cheeky dance sequence, perfect song choice, an intelligent use of the split screen - but never feel free.
And the script Neustädter Scott and Michael H. Weber keeps things by jumping back and forth in time between the day 500, day 1 and throughout the world is entering the structure also creates a sense of curiosity through, because we know that this relationship is doomed, we do not know how it falls apart.
We watch all this unfold with bewilderment and horror through the eyes of Lovelorn Joseph Gordon-Levitt Tom Hansen, an architect would be hard for a greeting card company. (So, perhaps a little practice that Tom, who has the maturity, idealistic notions of love, should make his life easy platitudes written on the subject. True education is in store for him.) Thanks to all the moments of joy and anxiety, Gordon-Levitt makes us feel he is still attractive, even when he is unhappy, you almost do not want to see succeed. One could imagine John Cusack plays the role 20 years ago: Gordon-Levitt, co-star of the television "3rd Rock From the Sun" and films including "Brick" and "The Lookout" is an everyman likability and determination but it is also able to show a larger, more vulnerable. Unlike the whirlwind romance of the "500 Days of Summer" is a career that is clearly meant to last.
"500 Days of Summer," a Fox Searchlight release, runs 96 minutes. Three stars out of four.
